CNN Data Request Process

The CNN is a collaborative group of multi-disciplinary Canadian researchers focused on advancing neonatal care. Our standardized neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) database provides a unique opportunity for researchers to engage in national and international collaborative projects. We house a comprehensive collection of neonatal and perinatal data, making it accessible for research purposes.

Our Mission

Health care professionals, health services researchers, and health administrators actively participate in clinical and epidemiological outcomes, health services, health policy, and informatics research. Our aim is to improve the efficacy and efficiency of neonatal care. Research results are published in Network reports and peer-reviewed journals.

Our Databases

Core Database

The Network maintains a core database, with policies on content and use, decided by institutional representatives and the CNN Executive Committee.

Project Database

Researchers can request the use of the Network's data acquisition system for project-specific data collection. Such requests must be approved by the CNN Executive Committee and data access will be limited to the project's researchers. Project researchers are responsible for any related expenses.

Data Request Process

Step 1: Initial Inquiry

    • Investigator expresses intention on a research question to the Coordinating Centre.
    • Email the CNN Coordinating Centre for pre-screening the research question before proceeding to step 2.

Step 2: Submit Data

Step 3: Review and Approval

    • Application undergoes review and approval by the relevant Committee(s).
    • Typical timeline: 2-3 weeks

Step 4: Protocol Revisions

    • Conduct protocol revisions, if necessary, as advised by the relevant Committee(s).

Step 5: Local REB Approval

    • Investigator obtains local Research Ethics Board (REB) approval.

Step 6: Data Analysis and Release

    • Expected duration: approximately 3-4 weeks, subject to statistician availability during peak periods and local REB approval.

We look forward to collaborating with you to advance neonatal care research. For more information, please contact the CNN Coordinating Centre at CNN.EPIQ@sinaihealth.ca
