A major weakness in our health research enterprise today is the failure
to effectively, efficiently and rapidly translate knowledge
into improved quality of care, better patient outcomes and
reduced health care costs. The specific aims of the Neonatal
Interdisciplinary Capacity Enhancement (NICE) Research Team
are to develop new methods and models of knowledge translation
to improve quality of neonatal care, enhance inter-disciplinary,
inter-institutional and collaborative research and increase
training and mentoring opportunities for trainees and new
researchers. Specifically, this team will be reviewing and
evaluating expert opinion from hospitals across the country,
making evidence from the published literature more readily
accessible, implementing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)
strategies, pooling data through multi-organizational collaborations
and using data driven methods for improving quality of care.
The NICE team is composed of an interdisciplinary research
team with broad expertise in quality improvement and is organized
into three research groups: - Data and Knowledge Management
Group
- Development of Knowledge Translation Methods Group
- Development of Knowledge into Practice and Policy Group.
These research groups will provide advice and expertise to the
development of The Canadian Pediatric Surgery Network (CAPSNet),
The Canadian Neonatal Network (CNN),
and The Canadian Perinatal Network (CPN).
